My Students

We are a unique middle school classroom! There are 45 students in our open double classroom where I teach math and science and my teaching partner teaches language arts and social studies.

Our students are fantastic!

They are independent learners and are expected to help the teachers run the classroom. We have some fantastic leaders in our room who guide morning meeting, help others on assignments, and take care of our supplies and materials.

My Project

Our classroom is enormous with the classroom wall open. We want a central location to put specific information in the classroom that is not connected to a wall. When we hang things on walls it draws students to one side of the double room or the other. We need a place to put information right in the middle that everyone has easy access to, and these pocket charts will allow for that. I've asked for several different types of pocket charts. One has enough pockets for every student so we can use it as a mailbox center. Our school is very big on field study which means we have to raise money. I've asked for a goal setting chart so that we can track the money we raise for our trips. I've also asked for plain pocket charts so we can use them for independent vocabulary assignments.

Our classroom works when we have systems in place for the kids.

There is a system for how we move through the room. There is a system for how we ask for help. There is a system for how we close down at the end of the day. These pocket charts will help us become that more efficient and effective with the systems we are building in our classroom.
