In my science lab, students engage in a variety of activities allowing them to explore the earth sciences. However, all demonstrations must be done at the front of the classroom or at the projector cart.
At my elementary school, students reflect the diverse economic and racial composition of our urban community.
They attend our large public magnet school specifically because they want to explore the sciences in the laboratory environment our school promotes.
My Project
With the requested iPad with case, students will be able to see the night sky right inside our classroom with astronomy apps. The students will be able to watch various educational videos. They will also be able to video-conference with park rangers from our national parks.
Using the AppleTV technology, I will be able to walk around the classroom with the iPad to view experiments. Their experiments can then be projected to the entire classroom using the camera on the iPad and the AppleTV. Students will be able to share their experiments to the entire class from their desks by using this technology in real-time. By adding the Apple TV technology, science demonstrations and student experiments can be done ANYWHERE in the classroom and projected to the entire class at real-time. We will no longer be tethered to the classroom projector cart!
The iPad technology will allow students to access the plethora of information that is out there whether by video conferencing with a park ranger in Northern California or by watching a video of the Kilauea volcano lava flow.
The AppleTV technology will allow students to share their views of experiments. All of these activities will help students engage with earth science curriculum through observation and reflection. Every child will have a front row seat for all science lab activities!
