Medical Occupation students are Career Tech Ed students who receive academic instruction, as well as hands on experience. These students need the proper technology to work on to support what they do on site, as well as in the classroom!
Med Occ students travel from three different school districts and 7 different local high schools.
Med Occ students are preparing for both college and career by taking this program. All TVROP programs use hands-on application and project based learning. As a result, Med Occ students see the connection between academics and careers! Student spend a total of ten weeks learning medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, vital signs, & back and front office skills. Med Occ students then spend over 180+hours at their internship in a medical field of their choice. Once completing the Med Occ program, students are eligible to take the California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam as well as earn three credits from our local junior college, all while completing a career and employment portfolio.
My Project
The medical field is a rapidly changing environment. Some of the technology that is being used now was not in place even last year! If funded, students will get to practice using the technology as they would at their sites. In addition, the technology, such as the document camera, will allow the instructor to get more information out to the students in the ten week period prior to starting site. Students will be able to practice hospital coding, use different medical apps to learn their anatomy/physiology and use the Cromebooks to write their resumes, cover letters and build their portfolios. Lastly, the Cromebooks and iPads can be used by the lower income students to take the required online courses that go with the Med Occ program that they may not have access to at their home.
If funded, the project would close the gap between students who have access to technology in their home and those who do not.
It would also allow the Med Occ students the opportunity to access their online classes in class as well as allow them to use technology that they will be using and experiencing at their internship site.
