"What if you could live forever?" Help my students ponder this question and engage in rich discussions surrounding the timeless novel, "Tuck Everlasting."
I have a class of lively, young scholars at a Title One elementary school in North Las Vegas, NV.
Over ninety percent of our school qualifies for free or reduced lunch and a vast majority of our students are English language learners. I teach in an inclusion classroom, which means many of my students have individual education plans (special education). However, we do not let these "labels" define our learning or our academic gains. My young scholars are making tremendous growth on our rigorous, standards based assessments. We have fully adopted the Common Core and are a standards-based report card school. Our students are eager to learn, please support their dreams.
My Project
I am requesting sixty copies of the novel "Tuck Everlasting." Thirty of those copies will remain in my classroom library while the remaining thirty will go into our school's literacy lab so that all the other fourth and fifth grade classes may access them as well. I am also requesting supplies for small group instruction. We requested this timeless novel not only to provide our students with exposure to rich, quality literature, but also because this novel is on the Common Core recommended list as an exemplar text. We are striving to expose our scholars to classic literature that will invoke meaningful, thoughtful discussions.
This project will allow my young scholars to fall in love with the adventures of Winnie and the Tuck family.
They will read the novel with partners and we will have meaningful, thoughtful discussions on theme, character development and whether or not someone would truly want to live forever. Thank you for helping my students with this valuable literary opportunity.
