My students love to learn! We started doing novel units this year and they have enjoyed them so much. They really get into the characters and actions, which is a big part of our curriculum. They can relate their lives better through these novels and it's amazing!
My students work hard each day to do their very best.
They come from a low-income community and our school has the highest number of English Language Learners in our parish. No matter their circumstances, they do not let anything prohibit their enthusiasm for learning!
Louisiana has implemented a Guidebook using novel studies to help support our curriculum, however, they have not provided class sets of the books suggested. The students absolutely LOVE participating in the novel units and it gives them great joy to have their own book to read along with. They get lost in the love of their stories. I am requesting 20 copies of the book "Treasure Island."
Students having the opportunity to read their own book as we study the unit will improve their reading, fluency, and comprehension skills.
It also gives them an opportunity to explore and research on their own time for projects and writings.
