A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
In an ever changing world, especially in the area of technology, it is imperative that students are immersed in a 21st century classroom as well as be exposed to as many technology devices as possible. Technology gives students the opportunity to touch the world with their fingertips!
I am fortunate enough to teach in a 5th grade class of 22 Talented and Gifted students.
Most of the Gifted students in my classroom have goals focused in the areas of Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking and Research and Technology. My district currently supports a B.Y.O.D. (Bring your own device) Policy. While most students in my class DO have their own device to bring to the classroom to use, this is not necessarily the case for every student. I believe every child should be able to have his/her hands on a device when needed and I would like to be able to provide that opportunity beyond our classroom computers. So many technology pieces can be incorporated into our learning day that can enhance instruction. I believe every child, not just Gifted learners, should benefit from being able to use various technology pieces/devices to enrich his/her education.

"Click on the Edmodo app and log-in. Please look for the assignment I have posted. At your convenience, read what I am requesting for you to complete, and post your response by the end of the day. After you have watched the posted video, please be sure to reply to me with a comment about at least one thing you have learned from this video and how you can apply it to what we are currently learning." By having an iPad mini in our classroom, I would be able to sync apps and assignments through the "cloud" while doing lesson planning. Students will be able to touch the WORLD with their fingertips. The iPad could be used for reading, researching, planning, and completing tasks in the class. Students will be able to explore, create, and learn by using this device. It will be incorporated into just about anything that we are working on, and most importantly, it will help the students be engaged and be enthusiastic about what they are learning. After all, they are digital citizens!
Having an iPad mini in our classroom will help the students learn to use technology and resource/research skills to be critical thinkers and learners.
They will be sharing a device to promote teamwork, problem solving and social skill development while touching the world with their fingertips!
