My Students

I hope that by the end of the year we all consciously create a school culture and climate where we feel personally responsible for each others learning and general well being. We have very little to rally around, but I can see our students light up when they hear a good beat. We need that spark!

Our school serves pre kindergarten through 8th grade population.

28% of our population has been classified as special education. We accommodate all needs from deaf and hard of hearing, emotional support, learning support and life skills. Our students live in an urban area that The White House as identified as, 'The Promise Zone." We are a community of parents, teachers, and students who are on mission to provide a quality education to our student population. The school is transforming. It looks and feels different from the inside out. Our leadership is strong and our instructional practices are getting even stronger. Students are beginning to believe in themselves and we are building the trust among adults and student families. We appreciate your generosity as you assist us in fulfilling our mission each and every day.

My Project

My students need a set of drums to create a positive school culture and more practice with real percussion instruments. These resources will be used in our elective music class. We have identified a large group of percussionists. Students have shown an interest and aptitude for reading music and collaborating with others to compose and create music. Reading and writing music naturally lends itself to math skills and helps create a positive school culture. As students create and learn their musical skills, we plan to profile our student's skills to the entire school community during school assemblies, school dances, and other community events. There has even been discussion of creating and after school musical club! When we catering to our students' talents, it brings so much joy their lives and fosters a positive school climate and culture of learning.

Everyone enjoys music! When peers are able to see their friends, and or family members proudly display the product of their hard work and effort, it will give our school community a place to rally. It will give us something positive to look forward to, admire and compliment. The musical performances that are created in that classroom will impact our school community.
