My Students

All of my 4th grade students must have a chapter book to read at school and at home. We are a small charter school and do not have a school library. The books I am requesting are books that they want to read. In order to get them to read I need books that they WANT to read.

My students love to read.

We have DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time daily and it is their favorite time of the day. However, I have a hard time keeping enough titles for them to choose from. It is also easier to get the reluctant readers to read if I have inviting titles available to them in my classroom.

My Project

The books I am requesting are actually books that my students want to read. The books are mostly series, because if you can get a child into a good series, you have them hooked. Studies show that the best way to increase reading comprehension is for kids to read independently for at least 20 minutes a day. In order to get them to read independently you have to provide them with books they actually WANT to read. These ARE the books they WANT to read!

Please help my students to continue on the path of becoming life long readers.

There is no substitute for cuddling up with a good book. My goal is that my students will be inclined to find a good book before they push a button on a TV or video game. THANK YOU!!!
