My Students

“Every form of art is another way of seeing the world. Another perspective, another window. And science –that’s the most spectacular window of all. You can see the entire universe from there.” ― Claudia Gray, A Thousand Pieces of You

I teach a group of 44 fourth grade students and they are all unique in some way.

They are bright and curious about the world around them, but have trouble seeing the world outside of their everyday lives. They learn best when they are involved in hands on projects and remember vivid learning experiences that I am able to provide for them. Our school is in a rural area that is quickly growing into a more urban environment. Students are losing the opportunity to learn about nature and how they can help to protect it everyday. Each day I try to mentor and guide these children to become the best that they can be. I encourage them to think outside of the box and believe in themselves. In my classroom, students are only limited by what their imaginations will let them accomplish. This is why I would like to involve my students in projects that inspire them to make changes that can affect the world that they live in.

My Project

I am requesting a digital microscope and several sets of prepared slides so that I can engage my students in the art of science. The world around them holds so many mysteries and they are unable to see it. I want to teach my students about the world around them at the cellular level and incorporate math principles into the art of nature such as symmetry and geometric shapes. By observing plant and animal cells as well as materials found in the world around them, students can identify geometric shapes and patterns. They can then use these shapes and patterns in a piece of art.

Your donation will help my students learn about cells and molecular structures in nature that are quite beautiful works of art.

They would be unable to view the art of science without a digital microscope and slides.
