This is my second year with these fun and creative second graders. Last year I discovered that they loved to research, create, and share projects. After seeing the finished products of my then 1st graders, I was inspired to find more technology to do bigger and better projects.
My students come from many diverse backgrounds.
At one end of our district students come from $500,000 homes and at the other some come from section 8 housing. However, one thing that they all seem to have in common is their almost instinctual ability to interact with technology. When I show them one technological skill, they are ready for three. They are literally sponges! Last year, created an e-book about an animal of our choosing, using some very primitive technology. My students LOVE it and are still talking about the project this year.
My Project
I would love to introduce my students to the Macbook Pro. Macbook Pro comes with several programs that my students could use to create projects that would showcase their learning. I would able to show my students how to create a movie using iMovie, a presentation using Keynote that could include movies, 3-D pie charts and graphs, and newsletters using Pages. These second graders would have a whole to way to share, create, and research. I could also sync the Macbook Pro to our iPads for even more learning potential.
My students will not only be inspired and more excited to seek out and share their learning, but they will be learning valuable technological skills to help them in this technologically driven world.
