Teaching With Technology!

My students need an iPad so that they are able to communicate and access the curriculum through technology.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to use technology in your classroom? Super cool, right?! My students have not yet been exposed to much technology in the classroom.

My students have severe disabilities, which affect their communication, fine and gross motor skills, behavior, academics, cognition and social skills.

These disabilities range from autism to intellectual disabilities to physical disabilities. All of my students have a limited repertoire of words and are mostly non-verbal. They are kindergarteners and first graders and attend a typical elementary school; they are included with their same-age peers for lunch, recess and specials, as well as school-wide events. Despite all that life has handed to them, they still know how to have a good time and impress me with all the amazing progress they have achieved this year! They are all super cute and hard-working; they give me a reason to smile every day!

My Project

An iPad would be such an amazing addition to my students' education. When I teach, it is important that my students are engaged in what I am teaching because of the limited attention of my students. With all the bells and whistles that the iPad offers, motivation is a given! Which kid would not want to use an iPad in the classroom? Not only is it motivating, but many apps on the iPad provide my students a method in which they can communicate, learn, and develop skills that they work on every day in the classroom. There are endless amounts of apps that have educational games that my students would be able to play, to reinforce the things that I teach every day. Some apps provide my students with a method in which to communicate their needs and wants, as well as what is on their minds and hearts! My students are mostly non-verbal, an iPad would help them communicate basic needs and socialize and integrate with their same-age peers.

Your donation would help my students with special needs learn and develop and reinforce skills learned in the classroom.

These are skills that they can use to be functional and independent citizens. Through the iPad, my students would also be able to have a voice to communicate their basic needs and wants, as well as a way to make friends and let people know what is on their minds.
