"You can build a better future when you join the winning team /If you desire a bright tomorrow, you must build a brighter dream" Maya Angelou so beautifully crafted the words that so many students at our school must live by each day in their inner city community in Washington.
The students at our school face unparalleled challenges as we begin a new school year, placing an even greater need to seek those who wish to give back to needy communities as a means of charity.
Currently in a transitional neighborhood, our school community has been uprooted, leaving behind the traditions that have been established for hundreds of years. Our students face extreme adversity in this time and are no strangers to violence and gang-affiliated crime. Against all of these challenges, our students are still dreamers, striving to make a better life for themselves and their loved ones around them. By donating to such a cause, you will help facilitate future politicians, doctors, lawyers, and bio-engineers realize the opportunity that education has provided them to grow past their heart-wrenching upbringing. This donation helps our students to build the brighter dream that Ms. Angelo speaks of in her eloquently crafted writing.
Within our school culture, students are often seen using broken, outdated, or teacher-created materials due to lack of monetary budget. This project specifically showcases the immediate need in our school for technology to enhance the education of those most in need -- basic supplies in order to help our children feel comfortable and important in these first few weeks of school. These new iPads will serve as an integral seed to be planted to eventually develop a school wide blended learning program. Children will use the tools to engage in meaningful and challenging content in small groups, as the teacher engages other small groups on targeted specific lessons. As a member of the 21st century, our children need access to technology on a regular basis in order to be college and career ready. Each dollar given to this cause promotes the idea that ALL children, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, or background, should have access to a high quality free public education
No matter how big or small the donation, these materials are the spark that will ignite a change within my students' growing lives, a desire for success.
The students who receive these gifts will be forever grateful for the decision you have made to support their endeavors as they continue their journey in education. I thank you in advance for your support, and I hope you truly understand the amazing opportunity presented to literally change a child's life.
