Have you ever been so angry that you did not know "What to Do When Your Temper Flares" and needed to learn "How to Take the Grrr Out of Anger"? My students often experience angry feelings every day and often do not have the social skills to manage their feelings effectively.
I am a school psychologist working in an urban district with 88 Elementary Schools, 39 Middle Schools and 28 High Schools.
Fifty percent of our total school population is considered economically disadvantaged. I am assigned to an elementary school (Pre- K- 5), a middle school (6-8), and a high school with specific needs for social-emotional learning.
My Project
With these materials I will be able to conduct small group counseling sessions with students who struggle with anger management and frustration control skills. Students will learn how to recognize physical changes when they are angry, identify anger triggers and learn strategies to express their anger in a constructive manner. They will be given guided opportunities to practice anger/ frustration control skills within a small group through games and activities. They will then be encouraged to practice skills learned during small group counseling sessions within the school setting and within their community. Parents of students served in the counseling groups will be provided an information session where they will be instructed in effective strategies to assist their children in learning healthy ways to cope with anger.
Social-emotional learning for students has risen to the forefront of education.
Your donation to this project will help children learn effective anger management and frustration control strategies and increase their skills in maintaining self- control. Small group counseling sessions will assist students in the area of social emotional development and develop life skills.
