My students need basic supplies to finish the rest of the school year like a pencil sharpener, glue sticks, markers, and chart paper for group work.

My Students

I teach a fun group of 4th/5th graders at a Title I school in Seattle. Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and over 80% of our students are currently receiving free/reduced lunch. While students are eager to learn, they often lack the resources they need to be successful.

My 4th and 5th graders love to dance, sing, and play sports during their recess and breaks but also love to learn about math and science.

However, most of my 4th and 5th graders started the school year without any personal school supplies. While our school was fortunate enough to have school supplies donated to us the previous year, we have now run out of many of our basic supplies such as glue, pencils, and markers.

My Project

The most important resources in this project are the electric pencil sharpener, markers, chart paper, and glue sticks. After our pencil sharpener broke about a month ago, my students have been using tiny hand-held sharpeners. Having the electric pencil sharpener will increase students' learning time by minimizing the time they are using to sharpen their pencils. In math, my students do a lot of group work and create anchor charts to become teachers and teach each other important concepts. This is a great way for students to show what they know in an interactive and fun way. The chart paper and markers will help my students create beautiful, colorful anchor charts that they will feel proud about. The glue sticks will be used to glue math and science material into student notebooks. Students will also use them for art projects.

This project will provide my students with some of the basic supplies that they need to be more successful in math and science.

My students will have more time to focus on learning rather than on looking for and waiting for supplies like glue sticks and markers. Please help me support my students and their learning by providing these supplies.
