A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Do you remember the first time you got hooked on a series as a child? Do you remember how you couldn't wait until you got your hands on the next book in the series?
My students haven't had that hook yet, but with your help and support, they will.
My students are a wonderfully excited group of students in North Seattle.
We are a school facing major budget cuts, like many schools around the nation, and new books just are not a priority. Third grade students make huge transitions during the year from learning to read to reading to learn and building a reading life. They enjoy reading but have not been exposed to a series that really GRABS their attention and calls them to read more. Furthermore, without a class set of books, we cannot dive into deeper thinking in our books because the books we have aren't accessible to all students.
My Project
The class sets of books will provide my students with an opportunity to engage in a book they may not otherwise have access to. As a class, we can guide and challenge each other toward deeper thinking of the "big ideas" in the books as well as inspire one another to read more. To help inspire my students to get hooked on a "new" series, I am asking for a class set of "Little House on the Prairie," "James and the Giant Peach," and "Sarah, Plain and Tall" books to help encourage students to read the oldies but goodies in literature.
These resources will make a mountain of difference in the lives of my students for this year and for their future.
When you look at the same books day after day, you lose interest and we don't want students losing interest in reading. This project in extremely important to me because it will fuel that love of reading for many years in their future. Let's brighten their futures together. THANK YOU for your support!
