Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Learning through senses including smell, sight, and touch is an imperative component in my students being able to gain the academic, social, and life skills they need to become confident and independent. My classroom has to be rich in sensory learning opportunities to support success.
My students are my Super Heroes.
They all have very special and powerful abilities to learn things and do things others have told them they are not able to do. They all have varying degrees of Special Needs and range from the ages of 3 to 6 years old. They not only face the challenge of using their Super Powers to show others they can learn, just in a different way; they also face the challenges of poverty, neglect, hunger, and even homelessness. They are my Super Heroes because they face life challenges every day that I have never had to face. They still remain joyful and give their full effort and use all their power to overcome these challenges.
My Project
My students will be able to use this sand and water activity table to explore various items in order to experiment, create, measure, imagine, socialize, gain language, and have fun while learning all this and more. We will fill the table with rice and cotton balls to learn hard and soft. During spring we can fill it with potting soil, shovels, and seeds. Dinosaurs will come alive in the sand and paleontologists will come to discover and dig in the sand. These are only a few of my students' ideas of what they will do to expand their learning beyond paper and pencils, to make learning more of a sensory rich experience, and bring learning to life.
This project will give my Super Heroes the opportunity to once again show all the villains in the world they will use their powers of learning in different ways to become independent, confident, and powerful members of society.
Integrating and focusing on the ways in which my students learn best; such as through their senses, will provide them with the best opportunity to become the most powerful "Super Heroes" for the rest of their lives. Help them overcome challenges and provide them success.
