Physics should be the most exciting subject there is! We use lights and magnets, build hot air balloons, rockets and roller coasters! My kids love to come in and build things to learn. They especially enjoy my class because we get to do just that with the help of donors like you!
My students are amazing!
They are the next generation of engineers and scientists. My students come in everyday ready to learn and experience science. We try to stay away from notes and instead, engage in hands on science experiments. Our school is utterly devoted to our students, but we don't always have the resources we need. We recently have come out of failing school status due to the hard work and dedication of teachers, administration and our community. My goal is to continue this initiative and make my physics classroom the most engaging, productive learning environment that I can!
My students will be finishing their standardized testing in June, which, with all the snow we've had in Massachusetts, leaves us with an entire month for learning anything we want! Normally, we don't have time to explore all the topics we want, due to the test schedule. With the extra month, we will be investigating engineering! My students will learn about extreme engineering feats, and have their own bridge building and boat making competitions. Students will use the toothpicks and glue to contract bridges. Students will compete to see whose bridge can hold the most mass! My students will also design their own boats using the glue, aluminum foil and craft sticks. They will then see whose boat can hold the most weight before capsizing! My students will also be able to build an amusement park, studying the differences in speed, force, and energy needed for the various coasters!
My school and my students always appreciate every donation!
We want to make our urban schools with low budgets every bit as successful as suburban schools with more resources. All students deserve a top notch education! While money isn't everything, we wouldn't be able to do these fun, hands on experiments that keep kids engaged without it. All of your donations to my classroom are loved and appreciated for years by my students and others in the school. You are truly making a difference!
