The challenge facing my 16 students is one of access to books! My students live in abject poverty and their homes are missing books for them to read and enjoy! My class has already developed an enthusiasm for books that will only grow as our year progresses!
I have 16 students who love to laugh and learn!
Our school is located in the city's largest public housing projects. 85% of my students have no father figure. 100% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Violence is a near daily occurrence in their lives. School is a safe place of love, respect, and structure. Despite these obstacles, my students show up every day with a smile on their face and an unbridled passion to learn and succeed!
I am requesting basic supplies for our classroom printers! These printers are invaluable resources for us because of the books we make using the printers. Sadly, my students homes are nearly empty of books, which causes them to struggle with reading. Without books, we cannot read. If we cannot read, we cannot improve our reading skills. I use the printers in our room to make books for my students. Each week I try to send home at least two books. These books are for the students to keep at home to read daily! My students absolutely love when they get their books. They ask for books daily. I only wish I had the resources to give them books every day! With the requested resources, we will be able to keep reading and growing our minds!
Reading is key to success.
Books are the key to reading. My students have a thirst for books that I cannot satisfy! I want to be able to give them books daily so their thirst will continue.
