Do you remember how proud you were when you were able to read your first chapter book? Students who are unable to access the same level of books as their peers desire to even more!
Bouncing into the classroom, the twenty-nine 3rd grade students are eager to learn and are enamored with books.
But some cannot yet read what their peers are able to read. Our school is located in an area where most of the students benefit from our free and reduced meal program. A warm, safe and stimulating place, our school helps them to thrive.
My Project
Teachers must be inventive and energetic to make contact with four different leveled small groups during the ninety minute literacy time. A listening center supplied with grade level and beyond audio books and a book for each group member encourages "stepping into stories". The struggling reader would enter the reading world of their peers and the skilled reader would be challenged by literature just beyond their reach.
Let's fuel the insatiable appetite of all the eager readers for the adventure of "stepping into stories".
You can help the struggling reader to have access to literature and at the same time provide challenging reading to the skilled reader.
