My Students

The students I teach have obstacles that they have to overcome. First, many come from very low-income families. We also have some that experience being homeless from time to time. The majority of students in my class and school qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches.

Second, my students all have IEPs.

Most have learning disabilities in math, reading, and writing, while a few others have emotional needs and some have other health impairments.

They struggle daily with the curriculum that is being taught, even with modifications.

My Project

Currently, I teach in a resource room in a middle school. All of my kids have different needs in school. One thing that I have worked on is offering flexible seating in my classroom. For some kids, it's no big deal, but for others, it definitely has been a game changer. The stand-up desk will give my students an alternative space to work whether they're in my class for a class or they're just in my room to work on another assignment. Trying to meet the needs of all my students is a never-ending task, but as a teacher, I feel it's my job to find ways to help support them.
