This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever opened up a can, changed a flat tire, loaded heavy objects, dried your clothes on a clothesline, chopped down a tree, screwed two objects together, rode a bicycle or even gone fishing?
SIMPLE MACHINES have made all these activities much easier.
My school is a public, Title 1 elementary school located in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York.
My students come from low income families which does not stop them from excelling. Students at my school have the potential to succeed but lack the materials to get to the point of excellence.
My Project
Pulleys, wedges, inclined planes, screws, wheels and axles and levers are all simple machines. These machines are used everyday to make our lives easier. My students will learn to identify each simple machine, investigate close-up how they work and eventually construct their own simple machines. These lesson will bring science to life in the everyday world.
Supporting this project will not only help my students gain a better understanding of science concepts, they will develop a LOVE of learning in science.
My students will be able to apply the skills they learn in this unit to their everyday lives.
More than half of students from low‑income households
