Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Now that students are learning to follow directions, they need to learn how to present food that are served on platters in food prep. We need platters to create vegetable trays, cheese trays, pastry trays, and assorted sandwiches. Students are also learning a skill that can be used in a catering.

This is a Title 1 school.

The majority of our students receive free and reduce breakfast and lunch. Our students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders with moderate disabilities in a rural school. The demographics are predominantly Hispanic, black population. The economic level in this community is low income.

My Project

The materials I am requesting is non-existent. We need trays and platters. We were given a classroom with the use of a stove and a refrigerator. I have been providing the ingredients that we use on Fridays. I've been very fortunate in obtaining funding for needed electrical equipment and utensils. We started with nothing and we are slowly making this a functional teaching kitchen.

They can become self-sufficient and independent and not rely on others to make their meals for them or spending their money on fast foods and restaurants. They will have healthier choices if they can cook for themselves.
