Safe Biking and Fitness

My Students

Do you remember learning how to ride a bike? Many of my students did not have that chance. We are offering that chance to my classes and focusing on everything from how to ride a bike, keeping it maintained, and bike safety. This will change their lives for the positive!

My students are a diverse group of learners, with an overwhelming majority qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

They embrace learning new activities and sharing their knowledge with their peers. We are all leaders and learners in our vibrant community that utilizes cross curricular instruction regularly. Our unique structures allow for us to have a caring, family feel that some of our students are not fortunate to have outside of school.

My Project

My students will be learning how to ride bicycles, repair and maintain them, safety while riding and communication. In addition to this, they will be helping design maps for safe routes to school and other popular destinations in the community. (Ie. Parks, mall, restaurants) In addition to this, the students will be learning cycling technique and countless health benefits that come along with the sport.

Safety is my #1 concern.

They must wear a helmet while biking. Upon completing a survey, over half of my students do not know how to ride a bike! That will drastically change many of their lives as they struggle with transportation daily. Some take 2hr+ bus ride to/from school or have a long walk from the nearest bus/train stop. We are going to partner with a local organization to further enrich their knowledge by offering a program where they can rebuild a bike for free that is theirs to keep.
