Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Learning is more fun, whenever play is how it's done!
My students love to do hands on activities and games that help them practice their skills.
I love giving them the opportunity. We are a low socio-economic and highly diverse school in Central California. Nearly all of my students' learning happens at school. Most of my students have not traveled beyond our city walls. We are a small school - with a big heart!
My Project
My students will be able to fully understand the rock cycle, the different types of rocks, and be able to classify rocks based on observations. There is no better way to do that than with a hands-on lab experience. This classroom rocks and minerals collection will provide students with hands-on experience testing physical properties of minerals, including hardness, specific gravity, luster, tenacity, cleavage, fracture, streak, and magnetism. The set of fossils will allow students to study the remains of prehistoric creatures that take millions of years to form. We can make connections between earth science and ancient history.
Most of my students lack experience.
When we study from our text books, students may care but rarely can make connections to things they have seen on family vacations or trips to museums. My students need to engage in these materials to truly understand the curriculum. Further more, classifying and sorting skills carry over to math and reading improvements. Your help will make a huge difference in their lives!
