This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What's your favorite school subject? Some of my first graders won't hesitate to exclaim, "RECESS!" After sitting at their desks all morning, they are eager to get moving and socialize with their friends during their thirty-minute recess period.

Recess is such an important part of the school day.

It provides students with a chance to not only exercise, but also to socialize. My first grade class, which is made up of six and seven-year old girls and boys, goes to recess following our lunch period. The students are always ready to get outside, play, and converse with their friends. Unfortunately, we have very little recess equipment. Students get bored and fight over the limited resources that we have.

My Project

Thus, I am requesting a variety of playground supplies to help my students stay active during their thirty-minute recess period. They will be able to chant along while using the jump ropes and hula hoops. After forming teams, they will be able to play baseball, flag football, and soccer. Other students can play tennis and badminton. Best of all, they will finally have choices.

This recess equipment is highly durable and should last several school years, benefiting not only my current first grade class, but subsequent classes, too.

Best of all, it will be shared with the other first grade and kindergarten classes that join us on the playground during recess time. Thank you for supporting this project and helping the students be active and social.
