My Students

Reading can be a solitude activity or with a group. One can get lost in a great book. Oh the places you can go! I start the day with a read aloud. it is important to me that my children are exposed to rich literature, and the sounds of the words.

My students are curious, beautiful 2nd graders.

They are seven years old and are like sponges. I want them to still be curious about the world that their part of. They are from various backgrounds. Given the resources and the opportunity they can reach the stars. Our school is very diverse. We have about 550 students. It starts from Pre-K to 8th grade. It is a Title I school, which means that about 90% receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school community very invested in see our students succeed and so am I.

My Project

Now that we have a listening center, we need books. The books they will be listening to are from vary authors, different genres, such as informational, fiction, and multicultural books. The Common Core Standards expect them to be college ready. In order to do so, they need to be able to ask and answer questions, think about what they are reading, infer, be able to write an argument, give their opinions and cite information from the text. They also need to compare and contrast from different texts.

It is said that education is the key to a great future.

In order to achieve this, we have to let our children be given the opportunity to be exposed to various types of literature. They need to hear rich literature. Children love to listen to and be read to and the tapes on books will be great. Reading is part of our everyday lives. there is no way to get around it. I need to arm my students with all the tools that they will need to make an impact in the world. They deserve a chance.
