My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My vision is a literate America in which all children have access to books and discover the joys and value of reading.

I teach in a high poverty school located in a rural county of East Tennessee.

Over 60% of the school's population receives free or reduced lunches. Getting to enjoy a print-rich environment is a luxury, not something that they can afford. It is my desire that all my students be immersed with all types of books including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, fairy tales, etc. Making those reading experiences positive ones will create an infectious love for reading!

My Project

Ideal for any classroom or library, the Book Browser Cart provides plenty of storage for small books that are hard to place on shelves. They keep books neat, easy to see and accessible for small hands. I am requesting a Copernicus Book Browser Cart which consists of nine tubs for organizing classroom books. This cart will allow students immediate access to all of the classroom books in our library.

Books are more than the stories inside.

They are a key to unlocking the potential in every child. Reading is important because it develops the mind. The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Reading helps children focus on what someone else is communicating. Please help me unlock the potential of every child that enters my classroom by providing needed resources.
