My Students

Reading is the gateway to all things. My students are becoming independent readers and can sustain up to 15 minutes of uninterrupted reading. Five months ago, this was not possible. I need your help to continue this success with them!

My classroom is a fun place to learn.

On any given moment, you will see my students laughing and smiling and working hard. My students are fun, happy, witty, courageous, and spunky! They come to school happy and ready to learn. They are in 3rd-5th grade. My students are unique compared to their peers. They are unique in that they have a disability. A little known fact is that they love doing what others are doing! Their ambitions are no different. Their excitement to learn is no different. Actually my students unique needs are their strengths because they are meticulous about their work!

My Project

I am requesting a set of take home leveled readers that go along with my classroom reading kit we use for our Language Arts block. These books will provide my students the opportunity to practice fluency at home and become confident readers in the classroom. Some of my students can read at almost grade level, but can not answer comprehension questions accurately. They struggle with inferential questioning, predicting, and analyzing cause and effect. They have difficulty with content related vocabulary and need it all to be broken down. With this reading program and these books, I will be able to provide that explicit, direct instruction they all need. These leveled books will allow me to provide appropriate books for my students to read and feel good about themselves. Also, these take home books will provide my students with a "library" at home. Long gone are the days my students are pretending to read and turning pages. However, say "hello" to our future leaders!

It is difficult to find the right books to support my students but with this set, the books will fit the reader.

With your partnership and support, my students are going to become better readers and scholars. This project is important to my students because it will provide them with more books to read and in return, spark a love for reading. Please help me help them!
