Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is always filled with fun, laughter, and learning. My students come from very challenging home lives. I tell them every day, I am so proud they are here today. I don't always know the circumstances they went through to wake up (went to bed late, didn't get a full night's rest, parents not home, sleeping at family members home, etc.) But I always tell them, I'm proud of them for making a good decision and coming to school today. It was the hardest decision they made that day. Sometimes they don't get to make that decision to come to school, and I never hold this against them. My class is made up of so many cultures, and I love this about my school. There are so many unique things about each of my students that I cannot pinpoint one thing from them. They are so excited and ready to learn every day.
My Project
This past year (first year teaching) was a thrown-together classroom. Due to Covid and virtual learning the first month, then transitioning to the classroom, it was survival mode for me. I didn't have a theme, nor did I have a clue of what I wanted my class to look like. But, now that I have a year under my belt and more experience in the classroom, I'm putting together a POP of color for my classroom. I also am moving classrooms, so I think this is a great way to start the new year with color and new items to furnish my classroom with.
My new students will love the theme and will make this a great escape from their daily lives to enter my classroom and feel invited, safe, and loved.
The items that I am asking to be funded are going to help my students learn while having fun. My reading area needs furniture to give them an escape and put their imagination to great use.
