My Students
I'm sure you have all heard of the budget cuts and shortages in the Philadelphia School District. If you are wondering how you can help and make a difference, THIS is it! This is an opportunity for you to make a contribution of CREATIVITY and INSPIRATION to young lives in Philadelphia.
My students are the 6th-8th graders of the Academy for Middle Years in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia.
They are creative, inspiring, brilliant, award-winning young artists who love and appreciate the arts. They come in each day hungry to create and be inspired.
My Project
We need basic supplies such as markers, pastels, tempera paints, colored pencils, eraser, pencils, paper. We will be doing all kinds of projects from portraits, collages, landscapes, still lifes, mixed media, etc. We also incorporate interdisciplinary learning and incorporate the arts into subjects such as math, literacy, science and social studies.
Art is what made a difference for me in my life.
It showed me that I have something to offer and that I have something to be confident about in my self. I see, firsthand, every single day how art affects the confidence and self-esteem of my students and I can't just sit back and allow that to be taken away because of budget cuts and politics. I'm taking a stand for my students because I know and believe that the arts are not just essential for their learning but make this world a better place!
