Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students come into 5th grade math below grade level proficiency in mathematics. Whole class and even small group instruction is not enough for my students with the highest learning needs. I work with a very diverse population of students with various learning needs.

My students are mostly English language learners who struggle grasping mathematical concepts presented to them.

My students are very motivated when given the right tools to become successful. They are very charismatic, amiable, and very willing to learn new concepts. My school gives preferences to students who are bilingual and/or who do not speak English as their first language. There are many structures in place for them to become proficient in English but none in place to help them become proficient in mathematics.

My Project

With access to these Samsung Galaxy Tablets, students will be able to access different resources such as Khan Academy, ST math, Ready Math, and several other resources that will provide quick on the spot intervention. Students would be pulled out for intervention with these tablets in order to provide an in-depth experience with topics that they struggle with such as fractions. They will be able to better learn concepts such as equivalent fractions, decimal operations, volume, and fraction operations.

This project will vastly improve my classroom because then I can incorporate blended learning instruction that utilizes technology to extend their learning.

Having this resource will allow students who have often felt defeated in the classroom become more engaged and develop a love for math.
