To build a house, you first need the items to build the foundation. The same goes for building a life long learner. Simple materials are needed to help students engage in their learning, and help them overcome the obstacles they face.
My students are from the City of Flint in Michigan as well as some of the surrounding areas.
They face a lot of challenges daily, as well as carry immense loads of responsibility. My kids are bright, happy, enthusiastic middle schoolers who have so much potential for learning! The goal of my school is to get all of our students on the path to college readiness, no matter their background and challenges!
These resources will help my students with daily activities, and projects. Student Atlases will help students be able to envision the world they live in. Pencils are needed because I do not want any child to lose out on their education, simply because they do not have a pencil to work with. Markers help students create in the classroom. My kids love to make posters and other interactive creative projects. This will help them be able to do that more often. Chart paper and post-its help students really engage in their essential questions for the class. This will be used as an immediate reflection tool, by having students answer a question. Later, when their answers have been collected the chart paper is used to create a poster (anchor chart) for the classroom! This will help my kids be able to reflect on their question for as long as needed!
Many of my students come to school with baggage that they cannot control.
By having the tools to create, learn and reflect in the classroom, their learning obstacles will decrease and allow their creative energies to flow!
