This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Wow! Thanks to Disney Planet Challenge's previous support, we have a salt water aquarium in our classroom. However, it does take a lot of upkeep and replacement items.
My students are inner city fourth graders who live nowhere near an ocean.
We only have fresh water near us and it is unbelievable how the students do not know the difference between the two. With this habitat in our classroom we are able to study both types of ecosystems.
My Project
My students are fascinated by any living creature in our room. By adding a totally unique environment to the classroom they will be fascinated and unable to stay away. They learn so much just by having the experience of caring for and observing the salt water tank. My students will learn the difference between lake environments and ocean environments. They will be able to compare and contrast water, animals, and the different species found in each habitat.
My project is important because I believe water is crucial in the future of our planet.
My students will learn firsthand how important water quality is for humans as well as the animals living in these ecosystems. My goal is to create stewards of our planet for the future.
