My Students

"Happy reading!" this is a phrase repeated daily in our classroom as I dismiss my students to go off and read. Students scatter around the classroom and begin reading! Imagine this beautiful image being ruined by students having to crowd around only 1 book shelf as they try to find a book.

My students attend a Title 1 k-2 school in a rural Mississippi community.

Each child loves reading and works hard despite their dire circumstances. They love to look through books and be as interactive as possible. We love learning and everything that comes along with it!

My Project

I envision being able to spread books around our classroom with our new books bins. I would also like to use our new bookshelf to corner off a library in our classroom for students to curl up and read in. Research shows that books should be available everywhere in a classroom to encourage a literate environment. I truly believe in this method and would love to make our classroom feel like a library the second you walk in!

It will allow them to continue valuing literacy in their life and continue to grow as readers. You will be helping students continue on a path of life long literacy.
