Someone once told me that every child is a reader, they just need to find the right book. My goal is to help students discover the book that will ignite their passion for reading.
As a first year teacher, I am beyond excited to be teaching my first class of students.
My students are sixth graders who are just beginning middle school. Our class has a wide range of ability-levels, interests, and strengths, and my goal is to provide my students with books that reflect the diversity of our classroom. Transitioning to middle school is tough. Finding a good book shouldn't be.
My Project
I've carted every single young adult book I own to my classroom. I've ransacked my teenage brothers' rooms asking to borrow books. I've begged and borrowed from my family and friends. These are the beginnings of my classroom library, but my students and I need your help. My students need engaging, exciting, and current young adult novels at their finger tips. This project will provide a much needed infusion of high-quality, current literature that will capture my students' attention and fuel their imaginations. They allow us to learn about diverse people, places, and times, and yet, they also grant us a glimpse of ourselves. Books teach us to reflect, to think, to empathize, and to learn. Middle school isn't just about meeting standards. It's about growing. And that is exactly what these books will help my students do.
