MakerBot for DPHS

My students need a MakerBot to move our science and technology programs into the brave new future of 3D Printing. Help us embrace our Maker future!

My Students

Our STEM program is doing remarkable things every day. Our science courses are fostering student inquiry through experimentation. Our Technology program has students working in robotics, CAD, and 3D animation. A MakerBot will help them fabricate the prototypes that they are already creating.

Our students are incredible.

They are investigating questions of their own asking, and working to do real-world tasks and develop skills that will serve them as they move from our community in to the larger world. We have students competing in pumpkin-chucking catapult competitions, science olympiad and protein folding competitions. We have students modeling the world around them, using CAD programs to design houses, and map our local environment. Our burgeoning scientists are working to develop their understanding of the world, and develop their own approaches to answering their own questions. Our students deserve every opportunity to prepare for the world that they are going to inherit.

My Project

3D fabrication is the next major revolution in consumer technology. Using the tools that will be made available to them through this project, our students will be able to build upon the amazing work they are already doing. Students in our science program will be able to design and test totally unique equipment and prototypes. Our AP Biology students will be able to design and render actual models of biological molecules. Students in our technology program will be able to manifest the work that they are creating into physical objects. By working together, students in our science and technology programs will be able to use the technology of the MakerBot to foster inter-disciplinary projects between all of our STEM courses, working together to develop and implement totally unique approaches to solving genuine problems.

This project offers our students a chance to get a piece of state-of-the-art technology that would not otherwise be available to them.

Certainly, the cost of 3D printing is dropping, but the price point is still outside of the reach of our district, particularly in the age of shrinking budgets. By bringing this technology to our school, our STEM students will be able to incorporate 3D printing technology into our curriculum across and between all of our STEM courses.
