My kindergarten students are just discovering the joy of reading. They love to be able to choose a "just-right" book that they can read with success. Having new leveled readers that are appropriate for kindergarten will give them more books to read.
My class is made up of 20+ very excited 5 year olds who love to come to school and learn new things.
They come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn new things. They attend a large elementary school which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
These five leveled reader sets will help my students by giving the students books that are on each child's individual level. Since each child will be able to read one of the books, they will each experience the joy of reading. Leveled readers allow each child to read without becoming frustrated because a book is too difficult or too easy for him or her.
Donations to this project will help my students to become better readers and prepare them to be better students and learners throughout their lives.
They will have the opportunity to do better in school because they will have achieved success with reading early in their school careers.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
