In kindergarten, students are building a literacy foundation that they will carry with them throughout their life. It is my hope that by providing my students with an organized listening center and a variety of books, they will develop a love for reading and important reading skills at an early age.
I have great students who are eager to learn, but we just do not have the resources in our classroom.
We have a literacy library to check out books, but children need access to a lot of books in our classroom. The more books they devour, the better readers they become!
My Project
The hope is that my kindergarten students will develop a love for reading and learn important reading skills with a new listening center. Hearing a book read on tape will help my readers see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. It will also help them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provide a model of fluent reading. Audio books will also give my students an important introduction to listening; a skill that they must master in order to learn to read.
Having this listening center and books will have a huge impact on my little readers!
The more books my students have access to, the better readers they will become. I want my students to develop a love for reading that they will maintain throughout their lifetime!
