My Students

Engagement Matters. My students are completely engaged when they know their audience reaches farther than just their teacher. Having the right technology supports students who wish to share their learning with their greater community. Our classroom studio will help us make those connections.

Our school is in a district where learning is a priority for everyone - from students to teachers to community members.

Students I work with are eager learners who are always willing to take on challenges. Over the past 8 years, we have created dozens of recordings and presentations using less-than-optimal resources. These presentations have been posted on our classroom blog, which receives about 60,000 visitors a year. My students have always tried their best regardless of the level of technology available to them, and have been excited about their finished products. I know that having such a professional-level studio is going to raise the bar for student performances. Their intrinsic motivation will shine through as they work hard to convey all they are learning via creative video presentations, interviews, newscasts and reports in our classroom studio. Students coming into our classroom in future years will be able to watch these videos for creative guidance when creating their own.

My Project

My students and I look forward to setting up our new classroom recording studio, as well as developing our plan for putting it all to use. The proper lighting and green screen kit will create a more professional recording studio. Perhaps it will be used for video book talks, where the screen depicts something meaningful from the setting. Our well-lit studio can be used for interviews, tutorials, science demonstrations and more... The wireless microphone system will allow us to hear our quietest presenters both in the classroom and on our recordings. The tripod and iPad support bracket can display an ipad timer for presentations or a digital teleprompter speech for a newscast. Though I have some ideas on how to put this studio to use in our classroom, I predict my students will have so many more. Watch and see where they take us!

I believe the use of green-screen technology will bring learning to life for my students.

Whether it is reporting on the features of a National Park straight from the virtual landscape, or creating a mock-interview of a famous scientist in his or her environment, students will have more choices to convey their understanding. We will then be able to share that knowledge globally through our classroom website. What a creative, authentic way to share our excitement for learning with others!!
