My Students

Do you remember what it is like to look at nature and discover different insects in your backyard? All of the questions that flood your mind, but you don't know who to ask. These books will capture the minds of my inquisitive students!

I am working in an inner city charter school where over ninety-five percent of children do not have access to non-fiction text.

We do not have an established library and the books we do have are outdated and used. I would like to create an engaging non-fiction portion of my library that would enhance my students understanding of their living environment.

My Project

Non-fiction text engage readers of every age because they capture the beauty of our world! Boys and girls will begin to discover the life cycles of living creatures and their living environments, how different communities work, and what similarities or differences they share with each of these systems.

Non-fiction texts encompass everyday life experiences.

If we are going to develop the whole child, we have to expose children to texts that showcase their surroundings. Non-fiction texts enhance our children's understanding about how their world works. Students develop a rich vocabulary when they are exposed to these texts. As they participate in cooperative learning groups, my students will be able to discuss these types of topics with confidence!
