My students need a carpet to meet at during whole group learning time as well as during independent working time. They also need wiggle seats to help them focus.

I work in a Leader in Me School. Each day, we teach our students how to be leaders by using the 7 Habits. Habit 6, Synergizing, is a big goal for us.
Our school has a very high free and reduced price lunch rate making us a Title 1 school.
Many of our students come from families that have had to cope with poverty for generations. We strive to teach our students that they can grow up to break the cycle and reach new heights. We teach them how to achieve personal victories by being proactive, setting/meeting goals, and focusing on their "job" of learning each day. We also encourage public victories by helping students think of win-win situations, teaching them to listen with empathy, and encouraging synergizing with classmates and staff. They can use these habits and skills as they move on to middle and high school and especially as they become ready for college or a career.
My Project
We need a classroom carpet for meeting during whole group lessons. Some of the best discussions on using and applying the 7 Habits come from class discussions as we are sitting together as a group. Students would also use this carpet when they are working in small groups on learning tasks. The specific carpet I chose gives them a sense of personal space as well. This is important for some students who are working on this skill.
I also would like my students to have the opportunity to sit on wiggle cushions. Some of them have to work extra hard to focus and attend to others who are talking. These wiggle cushions would help them to keep their bodies active while their ears, eyes, and heart are busy listening and synergizing with classmates.
A classroom meeting carpet and wiggle cushions are simple things that will make a big impact on student learning.
Because a lot of our students need to practice interpersonal skills, and all of us are learning to be leaders using the 7 Habits, the carpet and wiggle cushions will create many opportunities for learning and social growth.
