Lacrosse Team for Rainier Students in East San Jose
We need protective gear in order to begin our Lacrosse Team. While we have 20 players, we want to begin by raising enough money for 10 body pads to get us started.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I am excited by Andrew's enthusiasm and persistence in pursuing this project. Andrew has grown so much over the past year that I have known and taught him. He has channeled his energy into making his dreams a reality and I am excited to show him that his determination will pay off!
Due to the Due to our college readiness focus, students often advocate for and initiate the extracurricular activities that they want to see. Our sports programs rely heavily on community member and teacher volunteers, in addition to student voice.
Andrew has always loved sports. When I met him, he was enmeshed in an external football league. He truly shined when he began to play lacrosse, however. Given the direction that the sport provided for him, he wanted to share the excitement that he felt with others at our school. He knew, however, that the only way to encourage others to pursue the sport, was to demonstrate the power that it had to push him to be a better community member and student. For that reason, as early as last year, he had begun to develop sign-ups to create a team at Rainier.
This year, however, he knew that he had to pair his passion with a eye toward the manner in which to pull off his dream. For that reason, he reached out to me to support with logistics.
Andrew's initiative has already demonstrated academic organization and motivation. Andrew has contacted administrators and coaches from within our sports division and outside of it in order to make his dream a reality. He has developed spreadsheets on his own and has consistently shown an extreme amount of patience and focus that supports his academic skill set.
Andrew has also demonstrated resilience and persistence in his goal of bringing a Lacrosse team to Rainier. Despite multiple responses from administration indicating that this project might not be realistic, Andrew continues to push for a team at our school. Andrew spends his free time emailing those in positions of power to convince them that a Lacrosse team for our school would benefit our school and our community.
In Their Own Words
I brought it upon myself to try to create a new sport at the school that would be fun to play and good for bringing the school community together.
After looking into many different ideas (including Football), I found that Lacrosse would be a good fit for my school and the Eastside San Jose community. The equipment is minimal compared to other potential sports and after playing for a year, I know the power that it has to bring people together.
Funding towards our team would not only benefit the players signed up, but would also benefit our school and the Eastside San Jose community.
Eastside San Jose is known as the most “ghetto” part of San Jose due to a lot of gang activity, drugs, and violence. Most of the people caught up in these situations are teenagers in high school.
Now, everybody has their ways to escape from outside troubles, situations, or temptations. For me, Lacrosse is my escape.
Everybody who has attended high school knows that getting distracted or falling behind is common. Here at Summit, we have teachers constantly pushing us to keep on track and do good in school. But after hearing this a lot, over time, it will get old. Lacrosse can be another factor which keeps students on track or even ahead, because of the requirements to get on and stay on the team. The requirements include behaving in a respectable manner in class and being on track with all of school work.
