My Students

What do you remember most about Kindergarten? Coloring, of course! My students love to color. They color their work, art projects, pictures for Mom, and anything else you can think of. But we're running out of crayons and need your help!

My students are Kindergarten students in Nashville, TN.

Most of them are from low-income families. Many are English Language Learners. They all love school and coloring! Many of my students have very rough situations at home. They come to school and sometimes just want to color to take their minds off of the horrible things they're stressed about. Remember, these are 5 and 6 year old babies coming to school stressed... Despite what's going on at home, my students are excited about learning and school. They work hard, try hard, and play hard. They give me 100% effort even when they're exhausted because they were up all night or got beat up on the bus that morning. They love to color and I don't want them to have to stop because we don't have anymore crayons...

My Project

My students will color with these crayons! They'll sort pictures by the coloring the ones with the same beginning sound. They'll color groups of 10 red and groups of 1 yellow to determine a number. They'll color the middle sound of a word and sort the words based on those sounds. They'll illustrate a picture to go alongside a story they just spent weeks writing. They'll mount that picture and story to display in the hall. They'll draw pictures for their moms, dads, and teachers. They'll proudly give those pictures to the adults in their lives because it's what they have to give. My students will learn that there are some gracious and generous people who support them and want to provide for them.

Donations to our classroom will enable my Kinders to color!

I can't imagine Kindergarten without colors. With these crayons my students will be able to color and express their creativity. However they will also learn that there are kind and generous people who support them and want them to succeed! Thank you for supporting our classroom and these wonderful children!
