Our very small school is trying to make a wonderful learning environment for any kid who walks through our door! Zoo Phonics curriculum has a unique approach to phonemic development and comprehension. Unfortunately, we were only able to afford the manual & need help in getting all of the materials.
Kindergarten is filled with laughter, adventure, and discovery.
The students who come to our charter school choose to be here because we will help encourage all of those things together as a community. Since we are a charter as educators we try to choose curriculum and activities for our kids that are unlike the traditional schools. Because of that reason we often have to find ways to fund our resources on our own without any assistance from our supporting district. Even though it can be challenging our school is up for the task of making sure students at our school are fully supported and are provided with unique opportunities to grow into the wonderful adults they will become one day.
My Project
These books will be used as literature read aloud, which is vital in developing comprehension in children at this age. Reading aloud is widely recognized as the single most important activity leading to language development. Among other things, reading aloud builds word-sound awareness in children, a potent predictor of reading success. Students will learn the structure of stories, be exposed to new vocabulary, and learn moral lessons that can apply to their everyday lives. These books will contribute to their overall comprehension.
This project will help improve my classroom not only for the students directly, but indirectly because it assists in my ability to teach.
It is known that teachers often scramble for resources or have to supplement with less effective alternatives. By providing these books I will be able to make sure that instruction is delivered to these students with fidelity due to the fact that I will not have to spend days and weeks scrambling to find these books and these books will stay with our school.
