Remember how excited you were as a child to have hands on interaction with electronics? Imagine how a class of 22 Kindergarteners would feel to have this interaction DAILY!
My students that will benefit from this project are a very diverse group of students.
Some of these students come from a background with little to no technology or literacy, while others have access to books, computers, and iPads daily. My students are excited and eager to learn and enjoy using the iPad to explore apps and learn new skills. We currently have 1 iPad in the classroom that is primarily for assessment, but is used as often as possible small group and total group to allow students to explore and manipulate apps and e-books based on our curriculum.
My Project
These iPads would be placed in a center for students to use daily during our Literacy Center Block. This block is the largest chunk of our day and is for almost 2 hours! Students would be able to go to the iPad center with a partner where they would be able to choose from Literacy and Math apps and e-books that we typically use in small group or total group, but instead they would be able to use them independently to practice skills we are learning in the classroom. Our students are motivated and engaged by technology and this is the perfect way to allow them to practice skills we've already learned in the classroom.
Students will also be able to use these iPads for tutoring in the morning as they arrive. There is a lot of transition in the morning and this will allow them to work independently and manage their own learning.
Donations to this project will help allow all students to interact with technology independently.
Learning to use technology will better prepare them for middle school, high school, college and future careers. Though they won't each be able to have their own iPad to use, each student will be able to rotate through this center and use them during the day. Thanks so much for reading about our project and considering making a donation that would benefit our Kindergarten class.
