My students need iPads to help make my classroom a 21st century art learning center. Currently the art room has zero iPads. In an effort to make art as relevant to students as all their other subjects, the inclusion of technology into their art projects is essential. Technology adds an extra layer of creativity that can help encourage all students that art is for them.
I teach a general art curriculum to both fifth and sixth grade students, roughly 10-12 years old.
I have roughly 400 students that come through my room within a six day period. This means that these iPads would benefit the greater good of the school, not just a small group.
My Project
Initially I wanted iPads for my students so they could learn how to create stop-motion mini movies. A colleague and I taught a camp over the summer on how to do just that when we were actually given access to the school's iPads. The movies the kids made were amazing. But, stop-motion videos are just the tip of the iceberg. Students would be using the iPads to learn about other types of animation, photography, and photo manipulation. They would also have the chance to document their artwork and share it using my art blog and Artsonia, and much much more.
My project will make a difference because it will allow me to take my art projects to the next level by incorporating the technology aspect into them.
It will make projects more engaging and relevant to students and will educate them on how to use iPads as a creative learning tool.
