This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" (William Shakespeare) Every student entering high school should be familiar with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Our eighth grade students attend a Title I school in inner city Philadelphia.
They are working hard to get themselves prepared for the rigors of high school. Many or our students have little, or no, experience with the works of Shakespeare. They need to have a strong foundation in the classics in order to succeed in high school.
My Project
We will use the copies of the book Romeo and Juliet to increase reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary skills. The edition that I have chosen includes the original Shakespeare text on one page and, on the opposing page, a modern translation. This will allow students to compare the two texts while promoting understanding.
Your donation will provide our students with the opportunity to improve their literacy skills and increase their cultural knowledge base as well.
Our students need to experience the works of William Shakespeare in order to be prepared for high school.
