This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are constantly plugged in to some device, either their phones or their music players. They thrive on technology. I want to integrate technology into my classroom and individualize instruction for all of my students' needs.
I teach 6th and 7th graders who are learning disabled, intellectually disabled, autistic and emotionally disturbed.
This means my students do not learn best with lecture or notes. I teach creative lessons using interactive notebooks and personal whiteboards, but my students need more than typical students. They need technology to engage them and to meet their individual learning needs.
My students are constantly on their devices at home. I want to integrate that interest and excitement into the math class with the iPad.
My Project
My students need an iPad with a case. The iPad would help with differentiating skills to each student. My students have a wide range of abilities from not being able to count change to achieving at the 4th grade level and dividing fluently within one class. The iPad would help me specify skills to work on with each student. It will help me to make the lessons more relevant to each child while engaging them as well.
Students will be able to complete and upload individual lessons on their different educational accounts. I will be able to grade them and send differentiated lessons back to them almost instantly.
I know all of my students can be high achievers and improve their math skills.
I want them to believe they can as well. I believe by utilizing the iPad as a differentiation tool, we can achieve this goal!
