My students need color toner for our laser printer so we can print our photos in-house and at will. Photo students print their photos for contests and school displays.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Photography gives students another avenue for telling their stories. While a student may not be the best writer, an amazing artist or a stellar athlete, he or she can still make an impact on campus by capturing the world around him or her.
Our high school is not your traditional Southern California mecca of wealth and opulence.
Students at our school are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, live in high-poverty households and often have little opportunity for extracurricular or creative outlets because of familial responsibilities. As a Title I school, over 80% of our students are on free and reduced rate lunch and the majority of our student population speaks English as a second (or third) language.
Despite the challenges they face, our students are dedicated and hardworking. They are dynamic, creative and driven to succeed. There are often obstacles that prevent them from pursuing their goals, but they rarely take "no" for an answer. They look for any and every way possible to support one another.
Many of our students cannot participate in events outside of school. By providing fun, engaging electives (like photo), these students have more chances to explore their creative side and express themselves.
My Project
By assisting the photography program in purchasing toner, more students will be able to enter their photography in local and national competitions. Additionally, student work from the photography program is displayed on campus, at the district level and around the community. The printing costs off-site are too high to allow all students to print photos, so being able to print in-house is crucial.
Additionally, many of our students are not involved with organizations outside of the classroom. But by being involved in the photography program, these students can have a chance to make a connection to campus and see their work put on display. By entering in contests, also, students have a chance to win scholarship money and gain additional recognition for themselves and for the school.
Our school is not a sports powerhouse.
Our school doesn't have the county's highest test scores. But, our school does have amazing students who deserve to be able to express themselves. Photography lets them do that. It can be hard to create a connection to campus if you aren't involved in sports or clubs. It can be difficult to find your niche if you're not sure what you want to do. Photography gives students another avenue to belong.
