A classroom projector can be used to illuminate and make public the work of young writers.
I am a public school teacher in Brooklyn, New York, where I work with students in fifth through eighth grades as a writing teacher and literacy specialist.
Thoughtful and creative students explore their worlds at our school committed to promoting democratic ideals through public education. This commitment is reflected in the deliberately developed K-8 curriculum, which engages students through the convergence of academics, social-emotional development, and the arts. Reflecting the racial and economic diversity of the neighborhood, the curriculum at the school is strongly linked to the roles students play as members of a pluralistic society. As a result, we value and foster courageous, curious, and compassionate students.
My Project
Student writers will use the projector to share their work in meaningful ways. Our shares include exchanging feedback through simultaneous gallery walks, group performances, and more intimate partner shares. The projector will be used as a tool to highlight and showcase the work of students to real audiences.
I believe the power and passion of writers truly comes from within.
Providing students with a tool to more effectively share their words taps into this energy to elicit creative and amazing writing.
More than half of students from low‑income households
